Run for Sarah

A couple of months ago while I was at book club, some of my friends started talking about how they wanted to run a 5K. I agreed to the challenge and started running! I worked my way up to three miles in preparation for our big day. My sister, Tiffany, agreed to train me. I don't do well running alone.

Yesterday was our 5K (3 miles). It was called the run for Sarah in memory of a local girl, Sarah Friend that died at 12 years old of a heart condition. The race was organized to raise awareness of her heart condition and to prevent further deaths. There were 1400 runners this year. Tiffany and I ran the race together and it was crazy getting started. We were having to run around a ton of people! Once we were done with the first mile, we had a lot more space. We finished strong and knew that we had beat all of our previous times. We were pleased. I always sprint for the last 100 yards or so and this always annoys Tiffany because my legs are longer and therefore I can beat her. Tack on a few more miles and she would leave me in the dust. So, I finished about 15 seconds before her. After the race we waited for all of my friends to finish and then we left for Blake's last soccer game.

When I got home from the soccer game, there was a message from my friend, Carie, telling me that I placed 3rd in my division. Tiffany was 4th. We didn't even check our times because the lines were too long and we never dreamed that we did that well. Carie was kind enough to accept my trophy for me and then brought it to me. It was my first trophy that I ever won! I have won awards and silver plates and plaques, but never a trophy. Blake already has four from soccer, but this was my very first one. I was pretty excited. My time was 26:53....and I even got my name in the paper. It was a fun day. We are definitely going to be doing some more running.

Congrats, Alycia. I can't wait until I can start running again. That is really cool you got third. I would be really proud of that trophy too.
